Cash Send Option Available For Sassa Food Vouchers?
Flooding wreaked havoc in parts of KwaZulu-Natal resulting in more than 400 deaths, impacting more than 7 000 households and more than 120 000 people.
In response to the tragedy being experienced by people in KZN, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a National State of Disaster.
He explained that the designation as a National State of Disaster enables the mobilisation of more resources, capabilities and technical expertise in providing relief, recovery and rehabilitation to affected communities.
Part of the Disaster Management Act allows the government to provide emergency relief to its citizens.
One aspect of this emergency relief is the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).
This SRD provides vulnerable members of society with food vouchers and purchasing school uniforms for kids.
Sassa recently issued SRD vouchers in the KwaMashu C section in KZN, following the flood disaster that took place in the province.
People have enquired whether this cash send option is available for SRD food vouchers. Sassa explained that it is not yet available, however, this option is being explored.
This category has, unfortunately, not been paid as yet due to the fact that SASSA had to go through a procurement process to use this payment method with the banks, and National Treasury will shortly finalise this procurement process.
