Good Friday Affects SASSA R350 Grant Payments Today
Recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 grant will not be able to collect their grant from the Post Office today — here’s why.
The SRD grant, which was established during the Covid-19 pandemic, is distributed by several entities in South Africa.
The South African Post Office (SAPO), is one of the entities contracted to distribute the crucial relief to members of the public.
However, the grant will not be distributed on Friday, 15 April 2022. This as the country will be celebrating Good Friday, a public holiday.
SAPO does not distribute grants on weekends and public holidays. The grants will be distributed on the next working day.
Recipients of the R350 grant who chose to collect their grants at the Post Office will next have the opportunity to do so on Tuesday 19 April 2022. This is as Sunday 17 April 2022 is Family Day, a public holiday in South Africa. The Public Holidays Act No 36 of 1994 determines whenever any public holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday following it shall be a public holiday.
The Post Office is not the only place where grant recipients can collect their money. Pick N Pay, Boxer, Checkers, Shoprite, Usave and selected OK Foods Supermarkets and the Post Bank/Cash Send Services are the options available to grant recipients.
You can also choose to have the money paid directly into your bank account. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) allows for a R350 grant to be paid directly into your bank account. This is one of the most convenient ways for people to access their grants.
Sassa says providing your banking details could result in your money being processed faster. This will enable you to draw your money at an ATM at a time and place that is convenient to you.
Sassa spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi explained, “The good thing about having the money paid in your bank account is that you can get your money at any time, whereas if you get your money at the post office, unfortunately, you have to wait for certain days”.
