How To Apply for Gauteng Schools of Specialization
Gauteng Education has 35 schools of specialization. The education department has announced the admission process that applicants will undergo along with important timelines that parents ought to know.
Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has announced that learners that have applied to study in Schools of Specialization will undergo an admissions process before being successfully accepted by the school.
As per the announcement, the department has confirmed:
Applicants applying to Schools of Specialisation will undergo admission tests, written assessments, trials, or auditions from 20 May 2022 to 26 August 2022.
Parents have been urged to accompany their children when they go to the school for tests and trials to complete the application process.
Parents and guardians will be notified from 20 June 2022 until 09 September 2022 about the outcome of the tests and trials.
As learners will be assessed, it is important that they know what the curriculum of these schools comprises. These schools have a curriculum that mainly focuses on providing learners with sector-specific skills.
The learning facility of each school specialises in teaching the following curriculums:
- Maths, Science & IT
- Commerce & Entrepreneurship
- Performing & Creative Arts
The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality accounts for the highest number of schools, primarily Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) schools.
According to the GGT2030, the aim of having these schools is to address the skills shortages in the country’s economy and expand learner opportunities post-matric so that impact on employment is visible.
