Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) has deployed 165 000 contract staff to collect information for more than 17 million households for the Census 2022. A number of verification systems have been put in place so that households can check that the person at their door is a legitimate fieldworker.

Face-to-face enumeration

1) Clothing All Stats SA fieldworkers have been issued with Census 2022-branded bib, peak cap, mask and bag. Fieldworkers have a census-branded ID card printed with the Stats SA logo with their photo, name, unique number and the district they have been assigned to work in.

2) Online Households can make use of the online Fieldworker Verification System, which can be accessed here: http://www.statssa.gov.za/ Fieldworkerverification/home.php. Households can search by name, surname or verification number. The fieldworker’s photo, full name and surname and the district they have been assigned to work in are displayed.

3) Telephone Households can contact the call centre on 0300 110 248, or the provincial census contact person listed here http://census.statssa.gov.za/#myContacts to verify the legitimacy of the person knocking at their door.
