Kenya IEBC Registration of Presidential Candidates

The Commission has today finalized the registration of Presidential candidates. Wafula Wanyonyi Chebukati, presided over this exercise as the Returning Officer of the Presidential Elections. The following candidates met the requisite constitutional and statutory requirements, and were therefore successful in their bid to contest as candidates for President:

1. David Mwaure Waihiga (Agano Party)
2. Prof. George Wajackoyah (Roots Party)
3. Raila Odinga (Azimio Coalition Political Party)
4. William Ruto (United Democratic Alliance)

However, the following candidates did not meet the requisite constitutional and statutory requirements, and were therefore unsuccessful:

1. Eliud Muthiora Kariara (Independent)
2. Dorothy Kemunto Nyangori (Independent)
3. Dr. Ekuru Aukot (Thirdway Alliance Party)
4. Gibson Ngaruiya Nganga (Independent)
5. George Munyottah (Independent)
6. Jeremiah Nyagah (Independent)
7. James Kamau (Independent)
8. Jimi Wanjigi (Safina Party)
9. June Juliet Munyeki (Independent)
10. Justus Juma (Justice & Freedom)
11. Peter Mumbiko King’ori (Independent)
12. Walter Onchong’a Mong’are (Umoja Summit Party)
13. Njeru Kathangu (Ford Asili)

Regulation 43 (2) (c) of the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012 provides that areturning officer shall hold a nomination paper invalid on grounds that the candidateisnot qualified to be, or is disqualified by law to have been nominated or electedtotheelective post for which nomination is sought.

As the Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, upon discovery of newinformationon Walter Onchong’a Mong’are’s lack of academic qualifications, I invited himtoappearbefore me today at 2.00pm to clarify the issue. He failed to honour my invitationandpursuant to Regulation 43 (2) (c) of the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012, I herebyrevoke the nomination certificate of Walter Onchong’a Mong’are of Umoja SummitParty dated 2nd June 2022. The Commission wishes to remind all candidates to abide by the Electoral Codeof
Conduct during the campaign period.
